Ricky Hatton was born on the 6th October 1978 in Stockport, one of two boys, Ricky’s brother Matthew is also a promising boxer. Ricky started boxing at the age of 10 and boxed as an amateur for the Sale West ABC. As an amateur he won two NABC titles the Junior ABA champion twice, Golden Gloves champion, Senior ABA champion and was a World Juniors Bronze Medallist.

Ricky turned professional in 1997 and won with a first round knockout and has since gone on to win another 37 contests and has the impressive statistics of Fights 38 – W38 – L0 – D0 – K.O 28. After a string of impressive victories he fought the WBU Light Welterweight champion Tony Pep on the 26th March 2001. Ricky won by knocking Tony Pep in the fifth round. Since that victory Ricky has relentlessly challenged everybody in his weight division so he can unify the title. His next fight will help him fulfil part of this ambition when he takes on Kosta Tszyu in Manchester at the MEN arena on the 5th June 2005.

Outside the ring Ricky is a completely different person constantly cracking jokes and following his main passion outside the ring Manchester City football club. Ricky and Manchester City share the same theme tune, both entering their respective sporting arenas to Blue Moon.
